Year 3’s Dog Trust Charity Afternoon

Wow! What an amazing turn out for our afternoon! Miss Woodward and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to our event. It really did end our topic with the ‘BANG!’ we were hoping for – thank you!

We know that the children in year 3 have been really excited about the event and it was so lovely to see so many of you enjoying time with them as they showcased what they had done over the term.

Another big thank you goes to Charlotte Paddock who joined us from the Dogs Trust in Evesham. Thank you for coming and giving us your time again.

There isn’t really much for me to write here as I think the pictures further down will do more justice to the event than I could. We were very pleased with how everything turned out and we were so grateful to everyone who helped prepare the afternoon for the children to enjoy.

Before the week is over, we will be announcing the winners of our mini competitions as well, so keep your eyes peeled for further posts. Of course, the reason for the event happening in the first place was to raise money fo the Dogs Trust. As yet, I haven’t had time to count all the money collected, so again, keep your eyes open for further posts.

Did you know it costs £28 per day to look after a dog at the Dogs Trust? It is also important to note that there are 40 dogs at the Evesham branch alone, which shows the importance of every penny we raised. I will do my best to get the total to you before the Christmas break.

Family Tree Afternoon

Last Wednesday we had our first Reception family tree afternoon where family members joined our Reception children in the hall to talk about and share photographs of their families. Every child had a leaf to put their photographs on and spent the afternoon busily cutting and sticking special people to put on their leaves. The leaves have now been added to our own school family tree and displayed in the entrance to our Reception corridor. Thank you to everyone for sending in photographs to make the afternoon so special and to those who were able to join us.

Frosty mornings

Reception love frosty mornings, and last week we deserted the warmth of the classrooms to go and explore the frost. We had lots of fun making footprints in the grass and listening for the crunching sound under our feet. We enjoyed exploring the frost and using magnifying glasses to look at the different shapes and patterns. The children also had a chance to practise their name writing skills on the frosty grass and surfaces!

Who’s been a good boy then?

Preparations are well and truly underway for Year 3s Dog Trust Charity Afternoon!

Class 7 have begun to make the dog biscuirs that we hope we can sell next Tuesday afternoon. Can you spot the teamwork, communication and, not to mention, the hard work that has gone in to our batch of yummy doggie biscuits?

The children worked very well in groups to produce their biscuits – some may have looked ‘interesting’ but I’m sure the dogs won’t mind!

Writing Cafe? Don’t mind if I do!

Class 7 spent this afternoon enjoying themselves with a dose of Mr Bradley’s Writing Cafe and their excitement was evident the moment they came in from lunchtime. The tables were moved and the children came in to find table cloths on the tables, giving an ‘authentic’ cafe feel 😉

The children’s enthusiasm was quickly put to good use as we sat and watched a couple of short video clips from the film, ‘La Luna’. Take a look at the clips we watched using the links below.

We brainstormed some really good ideas and then the children rushed to find a seat and get writing!

Writing Cafe really promotes a love of writing. Class 7 have certainly shown that this afternoon! 😀

Let’s go fly a kite, up to the highest height!

Year three and Class 7 have been busy designing, planning and making their very own kites linked to our topic Blown Away. 

The children were set the task to help Penguin Blue and his friends find their way back to Antarctica by making a kite to blow them back home. During our DT week at the end of last term, each member of Class 7 spent time creating clever plans and elaborate designs for kites. We settled on the correct type of material to use, based on whether it would be light enough to fly high in to the big blue sky and be wide enough to catch the wind.

We had to use the correct tools, measure accurately and make sure all the pieces were firmly attached! It was hard work! Lots of teamwork and evidence of our school value, Cooperation, being followed.

Here’s how we got on! Even Mr Bradley didn’t mind the mess! 😉
